How to Quit “Finder”

You can quit the Mac OS X Finder in a few different ways, the fastest way is to just launch the Terminal and type the following at the command line:

killall Finder

Force Quit the Finder

Another easy way to quit the Finder is to use Force Quit, which is accessible by hitting Command+Option+Escape to bring up a Force Quit dialog box. From here, just select Finder and then click ‘relaunch’ which will reload the Finder.

Screen Capture Shortcut

You probably already know the  Command-Shift-3 shortcut for taking a screen capture of your entire screen, and you may even know about Command-Shift-4, which gives you a crosshair cursor so you can choose which area of the screen you want to capture.

The most-secret hidden capture shortcut is Control-Command-Shift-3 (or 4), which, instead of creating a file on your desktop, copies the capture into your Clipboard memory, so you can paste it where you want.

“Private Browsing” with Safari

Safari maintains records of your web browsing activity. It may also store your personal data in order to automatically complete online forms.

There are occasions when you might prefer to leave no footprints of what you are surfing. The solution to this is:

Before you begin browsing, go to the Safari menu and select “Private Browsing”. When the warning box appears, click OK. Now Safari stores none of your information.
